This project explores the boundary between visual indulgence and physical believability through a hyper‑realistic CGI visualisation of a chocolate bomb confection.
The aim was to create a product visual that doesn’t just look luxurious, but communicates texture, tension, and softness at a sensory level. From the perfectly tempered chocolate shell to the slow, elastic pull of the molten interior, every element was crafted to feel physically plausible and emotionally appetising.
The final deliverables include high‑resolution still imagery and a short‑form animation sequence, designed for use across digital campaigns, social releases, product launches, and high‑impact brand storytelling.
The brief was to produce a CGI food visual that prioritised realism over stylisation, with a strong focus on:
The chocolate bomb needed to feel indulgent without exaggeration—appealing, rich, and tactile, but grounded in real‑world physics and believable food behaviour.
Critically, the visual was required to stand up under close inspection, allowing viewers to study surface imperfections, stretch behaviour, and internal texture without breaking immersion.
The production process began with accurate digital modelling of the chocolate shell, carefully balancing thickness and curvature to ensure the break felt natural rather than theatrical.
Material development was central to the project. The chocolate exterior was built using physically based shading to replicate subtle variations in gloss, bloom, and micro‑surface roughness seen in real tempered chocolate. Lighting was deliberately restrained, designed to reveal form and texture rather than overpower it.
For the interior pull sequence, a custom mesh and deformation setup was developed to simulate the elastic behaviour of a soft, caramel‑like filling. Reference was taken from slow‑motion footage of viscous food materials to ensure stretch, thinning and snap‑back remained convincing.
The accompanying 5‑second animation shows the chocolate bomb pulling apart in controlled slow motion, allowing the interior texture to stretch and separate naturally. This sequence was timed to feel indulgent rather than aggressive, giving viewers time to register material behaviour and internal detail.
Alongside the final renders, a wireframe visual was produced to clearly demonstrate the underlying geometry and deformation structure, highlighting the level of technical control behind the finished imagery.
The outcome is a set of premium CGI assets that deliver immediate visual impact while remaining versatile and reusable across multiple platforms.

The animation adds:
Because the chocolate bomb exists as a fully realised CGI asset rather than a single‑use photograph, the project can easily be extended into:
This approach ensures the visual investment continues to deliver value long beyond a single release—aligning creative impact with long‑term content strategy.
This project demonstrates how hyper‑real CGI food visualisation can move beyond surface‑level appeal to communicate feel, weight, and texture with precision.
By combining disciplined realism, controlled motion and material‑accurate modelling, the chocolate bomb visualisation invites viewers to experience the product visually before they ever taste it—turning CGI into a sensory storytelling tool rather than a decorative layer.
